About the Artist

Daid Roy (born 1986, Los Angeles, CA; lives in Los Angeles, CA) is a conceptual artist whose work circulates through sculpture, photography, painting, sound, performance, and technology. In 2016, Roy conceived of BLACK NASA, now commonly known as Black NASA. The space agency is a reification of the commitment to the use of rockets for peaceful purposes only. Black NASA’s mission is to conduct rocket science through The 7 Noble Ideals of Human Space Exploration: Challenge, Creativity, Courage, Ingenuity, Peace, Unity, and Discovery. Daid received their BFA from Otis College of Art and Design (2013) and an MFA in sculpture from Yale University (2020). They are a Los Angeles Nomadic Division Mohn grantee (2024) and Yucca Valley Materials Lab Experimental Residency awardee (2025). Roy has lectured and taught youth workshops at the University of California, Los Angeles; Forge Project in Taghkanic, New York; and in community spaces throughout Los Angeles.
