To Speak from My Tongue is a program of short-form readings by presenters whose appearances are on behalf of contributing authors currently based in Iran. The event is anchored by Apolis, a visual lecture by Barcelona-based artist Arash Fayez (performed by Joseph del Pesco) that narrates the contents of the artist’s US immigration dossier—from his arrest by law enforcement authorities to his voluntary departure from the country.

About

Arash Fayez holds a BA in Architecture from Soureh University, Tehran (2009), and an MFA from California College of the Arts, San Francisco (2013). He has recently participated in group shows at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (2020), and the Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh (2019). He has performed at venues such as Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart (2020); La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, Barcelona (2019); Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco (2017); and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2015).

Joseph del Pesco is an independent curator, organizer, art journalist, and web-media producer. He has realized curatorial projects at Artists Space in New York; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco; Galerie Analix in Geneva, Switzerland; the Rooseum in Malmö, Sweden; Articule in Montréal, Canada; the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada; the Nelson Gallery at the University of California, Davis; and most recently at the The Berkeley Art Museum in Berkeley California. He is currently working on an experimental school-without-walls project called the Pickpocket Almanack with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
